Initiating HIV/AIDS Therapy in Treatment-Naïve Patients:
HIV/HCV Coinfection Case Study

Case Presentation: Nicholaos C. Bellos, MD

When she presented, the patient was advised to consider starting therapy based on her CD4+ cell count being <300 cells/mm3. However, she remained reluctant to begin treatment.

Finally, ten months later, with her CD4+ cell count <250 cells/mm3 and viral load at >21,000 copies/mL, she elected to start HAART.

During therapy discussions, she requested a once-daily regimen and expressed concern about developing anemia again. She was also considering HCV therapy as well.
