Managing HIV/AIDS Therapy in Special Populations:
Salvage Therapy Case Study

Case Presentation: Michael Wohlfeiler, MD, JD

Dr. Wohlfeiler (OC): I took patient off of Videx, because I was worried about toxicity. Videx, ddI, can be one of the more toxic medications out there, and in fact, the patient developed some eye problems, and was seen at the University of Miami-and at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, which is one of the best places on the world for HIV associated ocular complications, and was found to have a very rare ocular complication associated with ddI, and so needed to come off of the ddI anyway. I actually took him off of tenofovir as well, and was worried about some evidence of renal toxicity that was developing in this patient.
