You are the most important source of information about your side effects. Keeping track of your side effects can help your doctor and nurse keep them under control. Remember to take your temperature as often as you are instructed and be sure to let your doctor know about any bowel problems or change in usual bowel habits.
At the first sign of diarrhea you need to take loperamide (Imodium® A-D)*. Never take diarrhea medicine unless you have diarrhea! It can be dangerous to take it "just in case." If you have diarrhea, follow the steps on this chart:
First sign of diarrhea (loose or frequent stools, cramping) |
Take 4 mg of loperamide (also known as Imodium® A-D), |
Drink clear fluids, broth, Gatorade®* |
If diarrhea for 3 days even |
If free of diarrhea for at least 12 hours |
CALL YOUR DOCTOR |
Stop taking loperamide |
Call your doctor if you are not sure how serious your diarrhea is.

ªNote that the loperamide package will warn you against taking this much loperamide. However, intensive loperamide therapy is recommended for people with diarrhea caused by therapy with CAMPTOSAR.
If you do tend to get diarrhea after treatments with CAMPTOSAR, you may want to avoid dairy products or other foods that might cause diarrhea or make your diarrhea worse. Do not take any laxatives or magnesium-containing antacids. Ask your doctor about taking other types of antacids if you need one.
