Letter from
the PresidentSeptember 11, 2000 Turning Up the Heat I'm heading to Minneapolis for RTNDA -- the largest meeting of radio and television News Directors in the country, where we will be selling our medical news service as well as exploring other series we think viewers might be interested in seeing. If you have something special you'd like to see on your local newscasts, please send us your ideas!
Also out of Minnesota this week is a report on a new medication that can be administered at home for children with epilepsy, allowing the children and their parents more freedom of movement. We have two stories on ovarian cancer, with researchers at Duke quite literally "turning up the heat" on the problem by using hyperthermia to enhance the effects of radiation and chemotherapy. Patients describe the feeling as being on a hot beach without a breeze -- much like how it still feels here in Florida! And in our Dr.'s Q&A, Dr. Gregory Sutton shares results from his research efforts using a new scanning technique that helps differentiate benign from malignant masses, a great aid for locating the often hard-to-find tumors.
Offering hope to the estimated 15 million Americans with diabetes, our report "No More Shots for Diabetics" talks about a new drug delivery system that could put an end to daily injections for people with type 2 diabetes. You may want to do what I've done, and e-mail this report to any friends who are dealing with this problem. For the 18 million Americans suffering from chronic heartburn, make sure you see "Heartburn Help," which discusses various treatments and tells why it is important to see your doctor if you have heartburn two or more times a week. And lastly, don't miss our story about how simple changes in the office workstation, like the adjustable chairs and keyboard trays that are standard issue here at Ivanhoe, can help ! ! ! keep you from developing aches and pains at work.
And there's more where that came from...
