Hello Anne,
diverticulitis can vary, I suppose, in it's seriousness. I have it too, but
it's not so serious as was my stepmother's. She had to eventually have
surgery - it blocked her colon and she had bleeding from it. My doctor said
mine should be manageable if I avoid hard-shelled foods like peas, corn (my
favorites) and even things like rice --- and seeds. I love all of those and
eat them as I feel like it and have not had much trouble. My poor
stepmother, on the other hand, is much more sensitive and has to be very
careful. To the best of my knowledge, it is not a fatal disease, but can
worsen to the point of surgery, as did my stepmother. Hope this helped.
