Dear Rohit: I'm afraid the highs and lows are a normal part of the
treatment. After all my tests, which I was assured were NOT painful (but
WERE), it was time to install the port in my chest. The surgeon punctured
the tumor by mistake and I ended up in the hospital for a week. It was
extremely painful. They started my chemo there. During the chemo I had to
have two transfusions and I was hospitalized once again because I was so
dehydrated. During the radiation, my esophagus was burned so badly I
couldn't swallow for two weeks -- back in the hospital on a feeding tube and
more morphine. If it helps, though, after the first two rounds of chemo, it
did get a little easier. When I would become anemic, the shots helped a lot
to build me back up. It's never easy, although we wish it were. I think it
will get better for your wife, though. Just remember to holler your head
off if you don't think things are going the way they should!!
Good luck -- Kathy in Boise
