Dear Rita,
Let your mother make the decision, but you might want to ask the onc all the
questions you have. I chose not to take any more chemo (stage IV colon mets
to liver). I wouldn't let my husband or children make this decision because
whatever happens they can't blame themselves. My husband is not happy with
it but all 3 children are. They all think my cancer is gone. Sometimes I do
too. I feel great, look healthy and sometimes forget that I am dying. I
am doing some alt treatment but haven't seen a Dr since first of Oct. I was
giving 2-6 mon at first. Then 6-18 months. I passed the 19th month this
month.
My mother-in-law had breast cancer mets to bones. I talked to her onc and he
told me that the only reason she was taking chemo and rad was to help her
pain. Not only was the pain horrible but she was throwing up all the time.
They gave her a few weeks to live. I got her off the treatments and she
lived over a yr and told me it was one of the best yrs of her life. Hospice
came in and treated her like a queen. She was from another city but moved to
be near us. We had to put her in a nursing home, but my friends all rallied
around her.
I firmly recommend NO TREATMENT in these cases. But for your sake, be sure
it's your mom's idea.
With love and prayers,
Pat Hall
