Re: [MOL] meds/Reply to Rita

Welcome to our forum Rita.... in response to your mother taking Gemcitabine:  Through researching they are now utilizing more than one chemo therapy at a time, called two prong or three prong treatment.  They are also lowering the dosage of the chemo to reduce some of the side effects and giving it over a long period of time.  As you are more than likely aware when cancer metastases it grows more rapidly.  In no way am I suggesting what you or your mother should do.  Quality of Live vs treatment is a very important issue and only your mother can make this decision.  I hope I have given you some more information to help in the decision process.  Warmly, your friend, lillian

Subject: [MOL] meds

Recently my Mom was dx with mets to the lungs after her prime site was pancreas.  We were surprised it had
gone to the lungs instead of the liver.  I have looked up gemcitabine and the afftects are horrendous as she already
has N/V -diarrhea because of the malabsorption from the whipple.  She has not had chemo or rad to date as the doc
didn't suggest it.  Now we come to  20mons post op and it is metz'd.  I don't recommend she take the med as
the affects will affect her QOL.  She is weak, tired, in pain and is trying to make an informed decision...
Any info will be greatly appreciated..Thank you, Rita B.
