Dusti,
Your little Chance sounds wonderful. My grandson (6 years old) has been
living with me since I found out about my breast cancer last November. He's
been a great source of joy, but more than that, he's been a fabulous source
of strength. He can be so compassionate and comforting. And very protective
too. He would tell people to be quiet so I could sleep, or be careful when
hugging grandma because she hurts, and climbing into my lap ever so slowly so
as not to hurt me when I was healing from surgery. The smiles, the hugs, the
"I love you"s, the energy, the sensitivity -- everything that is a child. He
has the understanding of an adult at times, but agreed, he takes his cue from
the adults as well.
We've only had to deal with death once with him. So on his way to
California for his great grandmother's funeral, he says to his mother, "Don't
cry, Mommy, Monica and Tess are right here ["Touched By An Angel] and they
are going to go all the way with us. And Grandma is okay too because Andrew
was there with her and took her to see God. It's okay, Mommy. Everything is
going to be all right." They had to spend the night in a hotel and the next
morning little Al jumped out of bed and screamed, "Oh, Mommy, we left Monica
and Tess outside all night. I hope they are okay. I'm going to check on
them." He came back all calmed down and said that they were just fine. They
spent the night in heaven and just got back to continue the drive with them.
I didn't live near him at the time of this trip but cried as I heard the
story. Children give us the reason to live and we give them the way to live.
Praise God for children!
I love you all,
Marlene
