Dear Bess,
My Mother, who has bile duct cancer w/ mets to the liver, takes Aredia approx. once a week via IV. She was prescribed the Aredia for a condition called hypercalcemia. Her blood has too much calcium in it, I have heard it described as the cancer pulling the calcium out of her bones, but I'm not sure that is entirely accurate. Aredia hydrates her blood and clears out extra calcium. My friend at work also receives Aredia when his calcium gets to high and he has parathyroid cancer. Both Mom & my friend have reported feeling much less fatigued, less naseaus, and more clear headed. Both of them have also said they can almost tell when they need another treatment. So, for them, aredia has been a positive thing. I didn't realize it was being used to treat cancer, I thought it was to treat a side effect of some cancers. Let me know what your onc say, I'm curious. I was sorry to hear about your dear husband, I realize the difficulty of seeing a loved one struggle. I am including a url for you to explore at your convenience. Good luck Bess.
Regards,
Dusti

Subject: [MOL] Report on Tom
Dear Friends:
It is very late and I'm exhausted so this will be short. We saw our onc
today and he ordered a thoracic MRI just to confirm the lytic lesions as bone
mets. We are stopping the CPT-11/zeloda given Tom's worsening condition and
as a last ditch attempt will try Taxotere weekly and Aredia for the bone mets.
Has anyone tried these two agents and what side effects did you have?
I will try to write more tomorrow. Thanks to all for your support.
Love, Bess
