Hi,
I have been looking for trials for my husband for a while and finally
one came up that is very promising for medullary thyroid cancer. It is
Stem-cell harvesting and then CEA-Cide with monolclonal antibodies
administered at the Garden State Cancer Center in New Jersey. To be
accepted he has to undergo a lot of baseline studies to make sure he
falls within the guidelines. We tried to arrange to have the stem-cell
harvesting done in Michigan. I would think they'd do it at University
of Michigan or Michigan State, but we can't find anyone that does it.
Garden State is going to make arrangements to have it done at Staten
Island Hosital. So, if he's accepted we're going to have to stay an
extra two weeks in New Jersey area, about 4 to 4 1/2 all together..
That sucks, the cost is going to kill us.
We haven't decided whether to stay in a motel or try to find a
campground because we could at least cook in (we do have a large 5th
wheel). Does anyone know the area well enough to recommend motels or
campgrounds? The Belleville Motel is $342/wk, Staten Island Campground
is $40/day (wow!!) and we're still looking. A 20 to 30 mile drive
wouldn't be too bad, I drive that far to work eveyday.
We are suppose to have our appts given to us tomorrow so we know when
we're to be there for stem-cell harvest, and then the round of tests
begin to qualify.
Any comments?
Peggy
