The same drug that was recently
shown to improve survival rates in skin cancer patients now appears to
work in smaller doses -- and with fewer side effects. French researchers
at the Hospital Ste. Marguerite in Marseilles treated half of their 500
melanoma patients with low doses of interferon. Three years after the
start of the study, those patients who had received the drug had lower
rates of tumor recurrence than those who had not. (Source: The
Lancet)
The number of new cases of skin cancer rises each year. To
lower your risk of melanoma, avoid overexposure to the
sun. --
My daughter is 6 (will be 7 09/07/2000)
- was born with a brown / hairy birthmark on her face (cheek). I was
told that this birthmark type (cant remember the name) normally develops
mellanoma. She has had 3 operations to remove bits so far and will have
to have one final operation. I was told that this must be done before her
teens. What can I do or give her in the interim that can help this mellanoma
to not develop any further or to become cancerous???
Any advice or additional info will be gratly
appreicated.
Best regards
