New Follow-Up Recommendations For Malignant Melanoma Published
WESTPORT, Dec 28 (Reuters Health) - A team of researchers from
Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, has developed follow-
up guidelines for patients with malignant melanoma. The
recommendations are published in the December 1st issue of
Cancer. Dr. Wen-Jen Poo-Hwu, currently at Memorial Sloan-
Kettering Cancer Center in New York, New York, an co-
investigators reviewed data on 373 patients with Stage I-III
melanoma. The team analyzed the length of time between initial
visit and recurrence, methods used to detect recurrence, whether
recurrence was symptomatic (ie, detected by the patient) or
asymptomatic (ie, detected by routine monitoring protocols), and
whether survival was different if recurrence was detected by the
patient rather than during routine surveillance.
