Immunotherapy Feasible For Some Patients With Colon Cancer
WESTPORT, Dec 31 (Reuters Health) - Immunotherapy with an
autologous tumor cell vaccine is beneficial for a subset of
patients, according to the results of a phase III study. Dr.
Jules E. Harris of Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center
in Chicago, Illinois, and multicenter colleagues studied 412
patients with stage II or III colon cancer who underwent surgical
resection. Subsequently, patients were randomly assigned to
observation or to three weekly injections of irradiated
autologous tumor cells, beginning about 4 weeks postoperatively.
