Hi, Lillian, well, just finished putting the kitchen back together after
James took out the undercabinets to prepare for new lino. Lots of dust
and have the doors open now to recirculate the air. About the Cree....
Before 1945 had little contact with junk food, we did have a lot of
canned food and we went out and shot our meat. Sweets we did have but it
was a special occasion. The Cree have a long history of just going out
in small family groups not like the sophisticated agro cultures to the
south, like the 5 nations (Mohawk etc) They have discovered the gene
that gives us the tendency to store fats efficiently. We are very
slender when young, men and women and grow wider as the years go by. Now
we are reaching the width much sooner and this triggers type II
diabetes. Now they are finding that type I in the very young. There is
one whole community, the Sandy Lake Cree in Manitoba/Ontario border that
is serving as guinea pigs for better eating habits. They agreed to this
in return for fresh fruits and veggies in their store. These are still
luxuries to the many little communities in the Canadian north that are
not accessible by road or rail. There is the results of inbreeding as
well as happened in your south with the Scots settlers. I worked for a
time in a medical research ward in Toronto and I still can remember the
bronzing of ironload disease. Never saw this in a babe though but one of
my docs say the babies often are mistaken as having Japanese background.
Off to watch some mindless TV, Love, Jeanne
Next the betacarotene debate.
