Internet Access Is Changing The Doctor-Patient Relationship

NEW YORK The Internet is altering how physicians and patients
obtain health care information and communicate. The result will
be a more open process, in which patients have more input into
their health care decisions but also share responsibility to
carry out the treatment plan. The patient medical record of the
future will incorporate information entered by both physician
and patient. This paperless record will serve as a ``guidance
system'' for both, said Dr. Tom Delbanco, professor of medicine
and chief of the division of general medicine and primary care,
Beth Israel Hospital at Harvard Medical School, Boston.
