Two New Proteins Identified As Angiogenesis Inhibitors

WESTPORT, Aug 12 (Reuters Health) - Scientists at UCLA and Human

Genome Sciences have discovered two new proteins that have

antiangiogenic activity even greater than endostatin, making them

promising candidates for antitumor therapy.  Dr.  M. Luisa

Iruela-Arispe, of the University of California at Los Angeles,

and colleagues identified two related proteins with amino acid

motifs similar "...to the anti-angiogenic type 1 repeats of

thrombospondin-1."  The proteins also contain metalloproteinase-

like domains, leading the investigators to name them METH-1 and
