My father-in-law "Pop" is only 60 and was dx w/ NSCLC in
12/98. It was only by chance that it was found - in that his tumor is
outside the lung, and was pushing against the Superior Vena Cava so much that
his head & neck swelled enormously! He had to have 'stints' put into
the SVC, then have radiation before chemo to help alleviate the SVC issue.
It is considered inoperable. A great deal of damage resulted from
radiation. He had no results from Taxol & Carboplatin, but once on
Gemcitabine (Gemzar) the tumor reduced in size. Only problem is that lung
disease/damage is the greatest issue now. His immune system is shot due to
Gemzar (biggest side effect-immunosupressent), & he can't live without
Prednisone, not to mention a dozen other drugs to alleviate numerous
symptoms. He has no desire to take an active part in the healing process
from within - physically or spiritually.
Please consider that your greatest responsibility in your recovery
& longevity. You must drink plenty to flush the drugs from
your vital organs, and you must pump up your immune system as much as
possible. Positive, uplifting thoughts ONLY!! Do whatever it takes
David, to help yourself on the inside. Doctors don't subscribe to this
theory, but most survivors do.
