Dear Jeanne - they're no longer getting tossed out - in fact mothers to be are now
more and more routinely being asked if they want their umbilical cord blood
harvested and kept for possible future use for their own child if it ever became
necessar for transplants (leukemia, sickle cell) or to donate to banks. I think
it's great. I saw the child yesterday (on the news) happily celebrating at his
13th birthday party...there was a long story about him in Sunday's paper - he'd
