FDA Advisory Committee Backs Approval Of Doxorubicin For Ovarian
Cancer
SILVER SPRING, MD, Jun 09 (Reuters Health) - Advisers to the US
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Tuesday voted 9-2 to back
accelerated approval of a liposomal formulation of doxorubicin
(Doxil) for ovarian cancer that is refractory to platinum- and
paclitaxel-based chemotherapy regimens. Doxil, to be sold by
Alza Corp. in the US, was approved by the FDA in 1995 for AIDS-
related Kaposi's sarcoma, and is also available in Europe,
Australia, and New Zealand. It is not approved anywhere for
ovarian cancer.
