Doctors Cautious On Breast Cancer Drugs

ATLANTA (Reuters) - It is too soon to recommend the osteoporosis drug Evista
for preventing breast cancer, and women should be cautious about
electing to use tamoxifen as well, a panel of experts said Tuesday. Although
tamoxifen has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
for use in preventing breast cancer in women at high risk of
the disease, the experts said such women should really think
very carefully before taking it. Dr. Roman Chlebowski of the
Harbor-University
of California Los Angeles Medical Center, who led a review of
various trials of the two drugs, said it was just too soon to
know whether Evista was of any help in preventing breast cancer.
