Administration has approved SmithKline Beecham's paroxetine
(Paxil) for treatment of social anxiety disorder. According to a
SmithKline press release, the selective serotonin reuptake
inhibitor is the first drug approved by the FDA for social
anxiety disorder. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-based
pharmaceuticals and healthcare products firm estimated that more
than 10 million Americans have the disorder.
