[MOL] Re: Autistic Dogs

Dear Lil & Joicy,

My daughter is a speech therapist who works with autistic
children. She is the one who diagnosed the dogs. Reba
loves rocks. If someone threw rocks to her 24 hours a day,
she would never get tired of retrieving them. She will sit
and stare at a rock until someone throws it to her. She's
completely obsessed. She will not chase a ball, a stick
or anything other then a rock. Reba will not come to me
unless I bribe her with a rock. She doesn't like to be cuddled
or petted and only wags her tail when we play with rocks.

Our other dog, FeeBee, is hung up on chewing. Fortunately,
she only chews her toys, but its constant. She sits on the
couch chewing rawhide and becomes entranced. Her eyes
become half closed and she looks like she's on drugs. She
enjoys being petted and is affectionate but she chews all day
long.

Feebs may be mildly autistic, but Reba definitely has autism.
I don't want them on drugs, so I have never brought it up to
their vet. I love them the way they are and if rocks and chew
toys make my girls happy, then that's what they'll get. Its
unconditional love for all of us.

Luv,
Wendy
