Charles,
I can sympathize entirely with you and your wife. My sister, Barb, nsclc,
stage four, now possibly a stage iiiB, with met to the spine, has been
bedridden since Dec 17th. Her tumor in her lung, the dr says, is gone, the
tumor around spinal cord has shrunk considerably. But why the pain??? The
pain is worse than before. She takes morphine, steroids, etc. Doesn't do
much for it at all. We have a hard time moving her to get her on the
bedpan, and also to raise her up in the bed when she slides down after a
while. It takes two people with her now just to try to move her without
hurting her so badly. She had thirty-something radiation hits, and a couple
of small doses of taxol/carboplatin. She is supposed to get more
taxol/carboplatin soon. But the drs got sidetracked because of her pain.
She is getting discouraged, she seems to be worse, not better.
The Dr. here is seeing her Friday. They are talking about putting an implant
in her back to relieve pain. They think maybe it is nerve damage now. Who
knows? First it was her back, now pain into her spine. Does anyone out
there know anything about an implant in your back for pain for nerve damage?
I think she has more broken ribs due to the tumor, but not sure. And the
thought of them trying to put an implant in her back bothers me. She is
already in a lot of pain, and I know they can't put her to sleep to do the
procedure.
I see all the beautiful stories in the forum about the cures, and the much
better patients. And I am so happy for them, but it is very difficult still
for some of us.
Let's just keep comparing knowledge, and praying daily for some relief for
the pain and a healing.
Keep the faith.
Gwen Kouts
