i am a 28 yr old female who was diagnosed with ess. thrombocythemia in
october of 1992. when first hospitalized my platelet count was 1,267.0000.
Right away my dr. started hydrea in grand doses, but that did not help at
all. Soon after they did a platelet pherisiswhich of course helped, but only
for a short time, finally they started me on interferon(which was very
unpleasant) and after being hospitalized for 11 days they sent me
home...After 6 months of being on interferon with no steady progress they
switched me back to hydrea and remained on it for 5 years when they switched
me to anagralide(which is much safer and so far no side effects) so i can try
to become pregnant.
Needless to say i am still on anagralide, my platelets are checked once a
month, which for the past year have been a steady 700,000, and i have a
healthy baby girl.
i hope this may help someone, like the other e-mails helped me ......thank you
