Linda,
SCLC is small cell lung cancer. My Dad is in Florida getting
treatment also. He was vacationing when he started coughing up blood. He got
so bad that he could not be transported back to Ohio. He seems to be better
now, still weak and hoepfully will be home in May. My husband just returned
from New York where he was receiving experimental treatment for pancreatic
cancer fot the last three months. He is doing OK, but having trouble eating
due to radiation "burns" of his duodenum (where the stomach empties into the
small intestines).
I know hanging in there is easier said then done and 6 months ago I
wouldn't believe that I could think of anything except Patrick's disease.
But time is our friend in this case and I have been able to concentrate on
helping him beat this, getting educated and trying my best to help other
people become educated and supported. It really helped me to help others.
Do you have children? I found that I really needed to focus on our three
boys and help them deal with their feelings. It's hard enough to be a
teenager without dealing with the possiblity of losing a parent. It's been
tough and I still have bad days, but we are learning to live with the disease
without allowing it to ruin whatever time we have, be it 6 months or 40
years. You seem like a strong lady, you'll be OK. And we all will continue
to pray for you and your family.
