vaginal hysterectomy may replace abdominal hysterectomy for most
patients in whom vaginal hysterectomy is contraindicated, Italian
investigators say, based on results of a prospective, randomized,
multicenter study. The multicenter team, led by Dr. Riccardo
Marana of Gemelli Hospital, Rome, randomized 116 patients
referred for abdominal hysterectomy to laparoscopically assisted
vaginal hysterectomy or total abdominal hysterectomy.
