hi Gwen,
I read your letter about it being good to know what was going on with your
dad but being bad to have to tell him the cancer was back. My daughter
,Lisa is a nurse and she"s the one who told Rodney that his lung cancer had
spread to the brain. I can't imagine how hard that was for her to do. I
just wanted to share that with you.
Love Diana

Subject: [MOL] Squamous Cell Carcinoma
>Hi Everyone,
> This is all that I know on the dreadful Squamous Cell
>Carcinombiopsya. We all have Squamous Cells throughout the body, we first
>thought that the cell went throughout the mouth and digestive system to the
>lining of the lungs. Then came the Squamous Cell which is a form of skin
>cancer and both are an ulcer forming growth. At the age of 29 I had pre
cancer
>of the uterus, and bad pap smear after another, and they did an emergency
>hysterectomy. I found out that they were able to get it all, but the check
ups
>and everything afterwards were a pain. Then Dad found out that he had
Squamous
>in 1993, and he was going through his trials, and they re started checking
me
>at 34 due to finding Squamous Cells in the reproductive system of the
women. I
>still have to get a check up every six months, due to losing the one ovary
>that I have. Dad bless his good heart and soul went through a total hell,
and
>we were right there beside him fighting and learning. I work in the
hospital
>as a medical tech, and was able to find out more then some would, and at
times
>this was a blessing, and others a hardship, for I had to be the one to go
to
>dad and tell him that the cancer was back. He first had a lymph node
removed,
>then the radical lymphnactomy done on the left side of his throat. The next
>year back again and had the voice box removed. He went back in for a
complete
>oral biopsy, due to knowing that the origin site of the cancer had to be
>somewhere and they had not located it yet. He had non-differencated
Squamous,
>but not cancer in the nasal pharynx, and well differentiated Squamous Cell
>Carcinoma at the back of the base of the tongue. Three more major
operations,
>and fighting for his life the cancer finally got into the corodiad artery,
and
>in June of 97 he lost his fight. I was told by so many doctors that the
only
>way to fight this was by removing it, for chemo didn't even touch it, only
>radiation after the operation to sterilize the area may help, but again
this
>can only accrue once, and if it comes back to the area no radiation. This
is
>why I joined the Mol to find out different. I searched for trials and
failed
>when it came to this form of cancer. I was told that you are one in a
million
>if they go in and get it and it never comes back. I meet one person like
this,
>and he is still going strong 12 years later. I have been told that once
found
>you are lucky to have six months to a year, but dad proved them wrong by
>fighting for almost 5 years. There is different forms of Squamous only to
the
>point of where it is, and if it is cancerous. Last year I had a mother
write
>to me and tell me that her son 29 year old had this in his bladder, and
>kidney. Cris I hope that I haven't made you panic, for there is now new
>treatments that my father never got the chance to try, and I wish to God
that
>he had of been able to learn about, for he deserved to live for so much
>longer, after all he went through. He had his first operation at 55, and
last
>before 60. Charlie, and my greatest friend brother passed away at 40.
Cancer
>has no favorite's, and it's not picky that I have seen. I would not wish
this
>on the lowest person on the earth. Carla also has had pre cancer like me,
and
>knows of that fight in it's self. I have 1,000 pages of doctors pages of my
>dad and his cancer and the margin's, and the operations if I can help you
any
>more. Take care. Love Gwen W.
