Dear Nita,
When my hair fell out, I found it very depressing, besides a big pain in the
neck. I was picking up my hair all around the house. If it had to happen
again, I would shave my head. I only got one treatment and never got
totally bald, so I can't say exactly how a bald me would look. I'm sure it
wouldn't be my best look.
But when I had almost no hair, I mostly wore turbans. I have later felt
ridiculous for my lack of imagination. I've seen people wear baseball caps.
I would always before, fool around with my son and take his, but I could
have had one of my own! I have seen people at Sloan Kettering with all
kinds of lovely, colorful kerchiefs on their heads.
I have an aunt by marriage who lives in Georgia. She is a very good sewer.
She is always making things and one day at my mother-in-law's I tried on a
bonnet she had made. It fit perfect! So now I have one too.
I was a big fan of Laura Ashley stores. They usually carried, and I think
still do, some hats. Lately, I go more to a store called April Cornell,
which I have heard, on MOL, exist, at least in Seattle; so I hope maybe
there's one in Phillie.
I don't want to rule out so many stores, but I would think that the best
place is somewhere where they sell clothes that are somewhat old-fashioned.
Love,
Martha
