Welcome Steve,
I used to be a regular MOLer and now just drop by from time to time to see
what's up (you see it's really easy to get hooked on good people that you
find in this forum). Don't despair about your father's doctor and his
feelings about your father's ability to tolerate further meds.
My mother had CLL which she successfully fought for ten years and they were
the most enjoyable and rewarding years of her life. I am eternally grateful
for a caring and sympathetic oncologist who was willing to try whatever meds
were available to extend her life.
What is your father's leukemia and at what stage is it? The fact that he is
in 85% remission, in itself, is encouraging.
There are tremendous strides being made in chemo meds and alternative
therapy. If you are uncomfortable about the Onc, seek a second, and if
needed third, fourth, opinions. If you are located near one of the major
oncology clinics or teaching hospital your chances of finding those willing
to try new meds.
I know that if Lil were on line, you would get some great leads to
additional information - hang in and she should be on line soon.
Good Luck
Bill
