Re: [MOL] Lillian, where did your mind take you...

Hi Vicci
Pre history is literature (novels) that tell stories of people who lived
before any written history exists. Jane Auel's books are pre-histories of
people in the European area. Of course the people and incidents are fiction
but the setting and many details in the stories are based on archaelogical
discoveries so the places and the tools used by the people etc.are based on
scientific evidence. I have read all of Jane Auel's books.

Another series I have read is by Kathleen Gear and her husband (whose name
escapes me at the moment). It starts with "People of the Wolf", a story
about early people who came across the Bering Land Bridge before the
melting of the ice as the ice age ended caused the water to rise and make
it the Bering Strait. There are several books, each starts with an
archaelogical find and from that the story is developed. Each book deals
with a different step of the journey that people moved down from the north
and across the North American Continent.
They are very interesting and give some interesting insights into the
people and the customs of those early people.

I'll have to check a list of books I have from my library training for the
title of a book by Torey something that is an excellent book on child
abuse. It is a very good book. I enjoy a wide variety of reading so I would
probably like the books on psychology.

As for calligraphy, I have no talent and limited small motor skills so I
really don't get too involved in creating art or fancy writing. I know some
people who do a little calligraphy but not anyone who is really in to it.

I have tons of literature, Great Book of the Western World, etc. but I am
mentally too lazy to spend lots of time reading them except for my classes.
I too, like Bartlett's book of Quotations. I used them for speech classes
and writing inspiration.

I really enjoyed the books about the Arthurian Legends. The Mary Stewart
series, "The Crystal Cave" and the three following that followed the life
of Merlin are really good. I also loved "The Mists of Avalon" by Marion
Zimmer Bradley that tells the story from the point of view of the women.

At this point I am tired so I think I'll rest for an hour or so before my
class shows up. I have to discuss "Othello" with them tonight. I showed
them the video on Monday night and I want to be sure they have a grasp of
certain aspects of it before finals. I am glad I only have a week and a
half left of summer school. I think I am over extended.

Take care of yourself

Your friend,
Liz
