Dear Marny...Shalom and Welcome!
There is no doing this thing right or wrong...what is important is that
you have reached out and connected with a very powerful, caring and
loving group of people. We are either cancer survivors like I am or
those who care for a cancer survivor like you are the caregiver to your
husband. We are not professionals but have researched this disease and
will be able to help you to find information and where to go for the
latest in treatment options. One of the first places is the National
Cancer Inctitute. They have a web site at http://rex.nci.nih.gov and can
also be reached by telephone at 1-800-4CANCER. They will send written
material to your home on cancer in general, what to expect and advice on
the latest treatments for Dale's specific cancer and where they are being
offered. Another good source of information and help is the American
Cancer Society...there is a local chapter in your community and their
number can be found in your telephone book.
One of the most important aspects to this journey that has helped me and
others is the positive and hopful out-look that all in this family have.
At the base of it all is a deep faith in a God and a realization that
all any of us really have is the gift of today. So, with that in mind,
this is the place to share all of that fear, numbness, anger, laughs and
tears...for that is what we do best...share.
Where you receive care and from whom is the next important thing. Dale's
oncologist is hopefully from a Cancer Center or Medical Center. Either
way, you may wish to get a second or even third opinion...we all do that
and the current physician is never offended. I do not know where you
live so I will attach a list of all the Cancer Centers in the United
States for you to get other opinions from. I was treated at Memorial
Sloan Kettering in New York City and am a one year cancer survivor who is
back to work full time and enjoys his family and life more now than ever
before.
Marny and Dale, welcome and may God Bless you . I will keep you in my
prayers and hope to get to know you both better as we make this journey
together. Let us know the results of the CAT scan. Shalome.
