The NSABP P-1 trial showed that the incidence of breast cancer
among women on tamoxifen was 45% lower than among those on
placebo. However, estrogen receptor-positive tumors accounted
for nearly the entire difference observed between the groups; the
incidence of estrogen receptor-negative tumors was similar among
both women receiving tamoxifen and untreated controls. These
results were reported in Medscape's Conference News Online
Coverage of the proceedings at ASCO.
