Tracy,
As I mentioned before, I didn't meditate much while I was away on
vacation, but I plan (hope) to begin again. So count me in, too. I
could use some encouragement right now to get started again.
By the way, (this is for everyone) I found another book by Greg Anderson
(a long-time cancer survivor) yesterday. I haven't yet decided whether
I'll keep it for myself or send it to Annie (who has the cancer). It
looks pretty encouraging. It's called, "The 22 Non-Negotiable Laws of
Wellness: Feel, Think, and Live Better Than You Ever Through Possible."
Chapter Titles are:
Part One. The Universal Laws
1. The Law of Espirit
2. The Law of Personal Accountability
3. The Law of Unity
Part Two. The Physical Laws
4. The Law of Physical Activity
5. The Law of Nutritional Frugality
6. The Law of Minimal Medical Invasiveness
Part Three. The Emotional Laws
7. The Law of Stress-Hardiness
8. The Law of Emotional Choise
9. The Law of Developmental Motivation
Part Four. The Social Laws
10. The Law of Human Dignity
11. The Law of Win/Win
12. The Law of Present-Moment Living
Part Five. The Intellectual Laws
13. The Law of Mindfulness
14. The Law of Creativity
15. The Law of Lifetime Growth
Part Six The Vocational Laws
16. The Law of Life Mission
17. The Law of Purpose Through Service
18. The Law of Stewardship
Part Seven. The Spiritual Laws
19. The Law of Forgiveness
20. The Law of Gratitude
21. The Law of Personal Peace
Part Eight. The Greatest Law
22. The Law of Unconditional Loving.
Here is the description on the back of the book, along w/endorsements:
"Everything we think, say, feel, and do has a direct impact on our
physical and emotional health. And yet, we overlook this fundamental
truth every day.
A solution exists. The 22 Non-Negotiable Laws of Wellness advocates a
holistic no-nonsense approach to health and well-being that is keenly
sensitive to all facets of body, mind, and spirit. These twenty-two keys
provide the definitive toolkit for achieving your own high-level
wellness."
"The 22 Non-Negotiable Laws of Wellness proves we can tap our own mighty
resources and thereby add to both the quality and quantity of our lives.
Read this wonderful books and grow." - Dr. Wayne Dyer, Author of Your
Erroneous Zones and Real Magic
"Destined to become a classic. Much more than a book on health, this is
a gem on how to live. What an inspiration!" - Mary Kay Ash, Chairman
Emeritus, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Inc.
"The most comprehensive, easy-to-follow explanation of wellness that I
have ever read...[A] basis for a new reality for twenty-first-century
medicine: cost avoidance, self-esteem, and reverence for life." - Edward
Taub, M.D., author of The Wellness Rx.
"An excellent guide book towards achieving true wellness." - Bernie
Siegel, MD
I haven't read much of the book yet, but it looks like it'll be a
valuable reminder to me of the steps I need to incorporate into my life
to live healthier and happier. So I just thought I'd pass on the
information in case anyone else wanted to check it out at the bookstore
or library. I found the book on a discount rack at Borders, so it cost
me only $4.00 or so. It was written in 1995, so it's possible it'll be
difficult to find (I don't know). Greg Anderson wrote "The Cancer
Conquerer," "The Triumphant Patient," "50 Essential Things to Do When
the Doctor Says It's Cancer," and "Healing Wisdom." I'm am familar only
w/the "50 Essential Things..." - and only vaguely - since I sent a copy
of it to my sister-in-law Annie. It looked good, so I expect this book
to be helpful, too.
Later on, I'll try to send out another list of the books I have at home
on meditation. It's been a pretty busy day already. We had breakfast
and then I showered while Tom did some clipping in the yard. After I
showered, I made the bed, sprayed shower cleanser on the shower & rinsed
it, and washed down part of the sink in our bathroom. Tom came in then
and said he very nearly had heat stroke and desperately needed to cool
down. I had to give him the last cold water bottle out of my hand (I had
already begun to drink it - he seldom drinks them.) and he went upstairs
to take a shower & sit in front of the fan for awhile. He's feeling
better now.
After my lecture about eating healthier last night (Shannon refused to
try my pepper steak), Shannon surprised me this morning by asking for
apples w/peanut butter on them. She said she was going to "at least try
them." Well, she did & then she decided she'd discard the rest. Now she
wants peanut butter on crackers. Oh well, I'm just glad she tried
something new. :-) Soon we have to go to Wal-Mart to do some shopping,
and I have a few friends to call. And, of course, the housework is still
here taunting me, as usual. Got to go.
Love,
Jean
