We are having our first beans out of the garden tonight. We also have
potatoes, broccoli, beets, etc. Can you believe we have TWENTY-ONE zuchini
plants. I better look up lots of recipes to use them in. We accidentally
planted too many seeds and did not want to waste them.
It is my daughter's 11th birthday today. Not doing anything special. She
has a friend over. Usually we have a party but we bought her a new bike
this year and decided it would be too big an expense. I also don't want to
get in the habit of having a party every year.
We have a 3 foot deep above ground pool in the backyard to keep cool (no
air conditioning). We live about three houses away from Buckhorn Lake.
There are two beaches we can use and two docks for boats. I tend to prefer
the pool though. We have quite a few mosquitoes but no where near as many
as farther north. Luckily we don't have any black flies. This is the area
where everyone comes up to on weekends. We are "cottage country". We used
to have a trailer up here and that is how we came to move here. Now we
complain all summer about "those damn tourists" invading our space (of
which we used to be one). How far away from the ocean are you? We saw some
beautiful beaches when we were in Nanaimo.
I grew up in Montreal, Quebec and moved to Ontario when I was 21 to get
away from the political situation.
It would be nice if you could get home next year. It is certainly
interesting listening to native legends. My next door neighbour is the
minister for the native church on the reservation. She tells me many
stories and legends. We often discuss their different beliefs and ways of
doing things. I think we could learn a lot from them.
Will sign off for now as I need to get supper started and have lots of mail
to catch up on. Take care.
