Dear Cindy,
This thing with Rich came up quickly, as you know, and his Dr. along with
the 2nd opinion Dr. decided that the operation must come first as chemo or
rad. sometimes tears up tissues around the area. His Dr. said that he was
glad the chemo came 2nd because he would not have wanted to work in that
area after the fact. As it was, the operation went very well, in his
opinion. We just were provided with an oncologist (a lady doctor) that
comes highly recommended by Rich's home health nurse. She comes out and
changes his dressing on his Picc line. She said that this doctor will talk
to us and be honest and informative. She doesn't mess around or take any
garbage from anyone. The nurse said that some people think that she's
bitchy but she likes her a lot. So this Tuesday we have our first appt.
with her. The surgeon just had this appt. set up for us.
So now I feel like I'm not on the ball, but there was just no time. Rich
was in the hosp. for 9 days and feeling like hell most of the time. If she
had of come to see him it probably wouldn't have done any good. Just in
the last few days he has been asking a few questions. Like, "Do I still
have cancer?"
So I am anxious to see what she (the onc.) has to say.
The nurse said that Rich is probably in denial right about now and that
some anger will probably show up in the near future. I told her that he
sure goes through quite a few elevations of moods daily. She said that
this doctor will help him out by answering questions he has. She's also
going to find a local support group for him to attend and said that at the
rad. and chemo places he will be around others cancering people who will
talk to him.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know why the onc. didn't come to the hosp.
He didn't have one yet.
Thanks for the advice and I will watch to see how this doc. does. As
always you're very helpful and I do appreciate and value your opinion.
Love Vicci
PS He's still throwing up at night and his surgeon wants him to eat ginger
candies found at a local asian store, instead of prescribing the anti
nausea meds. They have bad effects if used to long. I like that.
Anything that is natural instead of man made. Rich didn't go buy any tho.
He's also taking baths when the surgeon has warned him not to. D E N I
A L said the nurse. I'm beginning to understand a little.....
