One of the things one hears over and over on the MOL line is that we
have to be actively involved in our own care, no matter how good our
drs. are. And this is especially true when you have multiple drs.
I had heard that ultrasound was an effective device in detecting breast
cancer, so I asked my dr. about it when I saw him today. He said that
while it doesn't take the place of a mammogram, for women who have dense
breast or fibrocystic breast disease, it is very helpful to use both. I
fall into that category, and also have a cancer that is fibrous and does
not always show up in mammograms until advanced. So next time around I
will get both tests. It does pay to take the initiative!
