[MOL] Laser Lancet(R) Receives Broad FDA Clearance

TRANSMEDICA's Laser Lancet(R) Receives Broad FDA Clearance

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- TRANSMEDICA International,
Inc.
announced today that its Laser Lancet(R) has received broad clearance
from the
U. S. Food and Drug Administration "for the perforation of skin to draw
capillary blood for screening purposes."

The Laser Lancet(R) is a small, portable, battery operated Er:YAG laser
that
eliminates the need for steel lancets, thereby ending the possibilities
of
accidental sticks and the attendant danger of transmission of blood
borne
pathogens.

"The elimination of the use of sharps in one of medicine's most common
procedures vastly improves the safety of every health care worker who
draws
capillary blood," said Charles H. Vestal, TRANSMEDICA's President and
Chief
Executive Officer. He added, "this is also great news for patients
because a
blood draw effected by the Laser Lancet(R) is virtually painless."

The clinical data submitted to the FDA demonstrated that the Laser
Lancet(R)
is both safe and efficacious. The data also proved that the healing rate
of
the skin perforation was equal to or better than perforations performed
with
potentially hazardous steel lancets. "More good news for patients," said
Vestal.

TRANSMEDICA's Laser Lancet(R) employs a one-time-use disposable plastic
tip
that does not demand the special disposal techniques required for
sharps, such
as steel lancets.

"We are extremely gratified to be able to make health care workers
safer, and
patients more comfortable," said Vestal, adding, "it's great news for
everyone."

The Laser Lancet(R) is manufactured for TRANSMEDICA by LaBarge, Inc.
(Amex:
LB), a St. Louis, MO firm that designs and manufactures high performance
electronics for a variety of industries.
