Re: [MOL] I'm new

Welcome to our family, Mary!!!  You and your husband have surely been through a bad stretch of time but you seem to be fighters and that's what it's going to take to get through all of this hell (excuse me for my language) of a disease.  You will find the most wonderful people here on this forum.  When one of our invaluable members, Lillian, gets back from a well deserved vacation in a few days, she'll send you a lot more information about us.

My husband was diagnosed right before Christmas last year with small cell lung cancer with mets to the lymph and bone marrow so you can see we are battling this as well.  Between you and me, I know that the folks actually with the cancer have to go through so much with their chemo and radiation and everything else that comes with this disease, but it's awfully hard on us caretakers as well.  And that's really where the folks on this board come in handy.  You can yell in anger at what's happened to you, you can cry on our shoulders if you need too (we have collectively big shoulders), you'll see some jokes being passed back and forth as we believe humor is part of the wellness program.  If you have any questions, just ask.  On this board, is a collective group of experts.  What one doesn't know, another does.  What one hasn't experienced, another has.

Welcome again, Mary.  I'm here for you anytime you need me!!  Please also keep us up to date on your husband.

Subject: [MOL] I'm new

My husband found out last Sep, in a medical checkup for a CDL license, he
had prostrate cancer.  He had the prostrate removed.  But it had spread to
the lymph glands.  Then in May of this year he found out he has colon
cancer and this has spread to the liver.  He had the colon cancer spot
removed and the liver spot removed.  Then he got a bacteria in the stool
and almost had to have more surgery and a colostomy bag.  But with
antibiotics that has cleared for now, so he has no bag.  This Thurs, July
9, he starts radiation for 5 days wk, 5 weeks.  With a small amout of
chemo.  Then he starts chemo full strength.  We are new a very scared.  I
would like to hear from someone with similar experiances, so I can show
that to him.  I know he would be interested.  He is off work now.  He is a
truck driver, has been for lots of years.  We are both in our early 60s and
have only been married 4 years.  My e-mail address is mal4724@ccp.com.  Or
post your answer on this forum.  I get on line each morning and read all
the replys.
Mary Lewis, St Joseph Mo.
