Without diminishing the postive effects of this support group, of which I am
an outsider, please understand that until all of you ORGANIZE, and make
demands on the political decision makers, with the viable threat of political
repercussions, nothing is going to change as to Availablity, Accessibility, or
Affordability of Alternative Treatment.
It's all well and good that each of us individually can identify with the
horrors that our loved ones are experiencing while we provide them with
religious support, encouragement, and information about trial programs that
have been effective, new treatments to be "marketed" soon, etc. But, the
bottom line is, some of our loved ones are on a limited timetable that does
not extend to the production and distribution schedules of the FDA or
pharmaceutical companies.
In about 1775, a fellow by the name of Thomas Paine, ignited a revolutionary
war, beiginning with the words, "These are the times that try men's souls"!
No truer words could be spoken today when it comes to combating cancer, in
whatever form it strikes a member or friend of our family.
So, it seems to me, that it is time for all the support groups to unite as
one, to combat and overcome this horrible disease, by providing the politcal
pressure necessary to make everyone eligible to participate for treatment in
any and all trial programs.
Without elaborating into the "profit making ventures" of some of the so-called
"cures",
all of us are being robbed of individual health and companionship, by
"traditional" medicine, and federal bureacracy. The fact of the matter is,
our guess is as good as the Doctor's: It wasn't until the 1860's that doctors
discovered that by the simple process of washing their hands they could
prevent the exposure of disease to the next patient they treated.
So, those of you afflicted, probably know what's better for you, better than
your Doc's. The rest of us simply need to exert the necessary infuence to
assure you receive the treatment and attention you deserve.
There is a certain amount of trust we must place in our Doctor's, but indeed,
they are not GOD. Accordingly, we must exert our right to question, seek
alternative opinions and treatment, and assert our rights as the CUSTOMER, in
every instance.
This essay is based on personal experiences involving those dear to me who's
lives proceeded to another dimension.
