Drug Warning
Roche, manufacturer of the blood pressure and angina medication
Posicor (mibefradil), has voluntarily withdrawn the drug from the
market and is warning doctors of its potential for serious interactions
with other common medications. Roche says Posicor has performed well
in studies when used by itself. However, the drug has caused some
serious reactions when used with certain other drugs, including
antibiotics and cardiovascular medications. Roche has warned patients
to check with their doctors before stopping any medication and has
set up a toll-free information hotline at 1-800-205-4611.
