My father has been diagnosed with Adeno Carcinoma. About three weeks ago,
he began to feel pain in his lower intestine and eventually it became so
painful that he could not eat. He checked into a hospital in NJ and the
doctors performed some blood work.
His bloods showed no signs of anything toxic in his system, so the doctors
performed a body cat scan and detected a tumor between his stomach and
lower intestine. The next day they removed the tumor, which was cancerous.
A few days ago, they performed some more tests and determined that his
lower abdominal cavity was infected with adeno carcinoma type cells. His
oncologist has suggested that he be put on a very rigorous and toxic
chemotherapy treatment which will for the most part incapacitate him for a
few days a week, to then start the cycle over again the next week. This is
to go on for about 1 year.
The oncologist has said that 40% of those who begin the treatment cannot
withstand its tax on the body and have to go off of it. Of the remaining
60%, 40% see about a 10%-15% reduction in the cancer cells. Only a small
percentage go onto live "healthier" lives.
I'm in the stage of collecting as much information as I can regarding this
situation and if anyone knows of people I can talk to or books/articles I
can read, I'd really appreciate it.
