I just spent about an hour and a half on the
phone with Betty Kula from Albuquerque...she is in town to be evaluated by
MDA.
THe testing was finished yesterday,
and she will learn Tuesday if she checks out to have this protocol they are
trying on liver tumors. Prelim results, like EEG blood pressure are
all great for her age, and so they are fairly hopeful to get the green
light. Betty says she feels great aside from tiring easily. I
think the doctors here are amazed by her overall health and condition, and
feel she is a good candidate. They have had a 30% success rate with
the 50 or so (I forget the precise # she gve me) patients that have tried
this protocol. This is stunning news to someone who was told there was
no hope!! I am so happy for her!
SHe is not sure of all the drugs, and
felt until she was accepted it was premature to ask. But I told her I
would research and print out anything she wants to know about.
If we get the wheelchair today,
perhaps I can get Charlie over to her hotel to visit. Also, if you
want to send her any email, I will fax it to her at the hotel if I do not
get to hand deliver.
3 cheers for Betty! Keep her in your prayers to get
accepted into the program.
