John, sorry to butt in
Ben, you might give details about who you are trying to help. There are
many people here that could give you good advise. I don't surface much as I
have not been offered any treatment as they can't find a tumor to treat (no
tumor no treatment) so I have been investigating a lot of alternative
medicine. I have been diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma, primary unknown. This
is rare about 2 percent of all cancer diagnosis.
About alternative medicine, my own opinion is that conventional medicine
always comes first. I know I am getting a rep as a "herb" lady but I was
trained as a registered nurse and would never refuse conventional treatment
if offered. I would never advise anyone to go strictly alternative. Just as
John says Buyer beware. While Mavis is in treatment and Stafford is rated
well, you can start investigating other ways to boost her immune system.
Read or surf, talk to people in cancer support groups. With my own disease,
my family doc said to go as esoteric as I wanted. Now I hear that even
conventional centers like Sloan-Kettering in NY are setting up a
complementary unit along side their conventional cancer treatment centers.
Don't get in a panic. Do conventional first. I found Greg Anderson's book
"50 essential things to do when the doctor says it is cancer" invaluable
and it helped get me past the initial bummed out stage. Right now make sure
you have a good oncologist, one you like and trust. Don't let the stats
scare you, there are a lot of people here who have outlived their doctors
predictions. Keep on line, and God bless, Jeanne K
