>Any soy milk?  How much do you drink a day? 2 qts. a day, right at the food store.  I get the low fat.  I also take Vit. C. and a multi vit. Hope this all helps you.

It has been our expierence that alternative meds. along with conventional therapy work very well; however one must know that the alternative therapy is recognized.

Good Afternoon,

Hi my dear friends, I am writing this as my wife is dragging one leg out
the door and the other is holding down the computer so I can send one
more message. YIkes, I am hooked to you all...Well one more message.

I found this interesting. Complet article can be found
http://www.msnbc.com/news/169321.asp

THE NEW WORK found that aspirin acts as an anti-angiogenesis
agent,
much like the well-publicized combination of drugs that completely cured
tumors in mice.
The find could lead to the development of more targeted drugs to
prevent colon cancer that don’t have the side effects sometimes
associated
with chronic use of painkillers, said study author Dr. Raymond N.
DuBois,
director of gastroenterology at Vanderbilt Cancer Center in Nashville.
Aspirin appears to act in two ways to block the growth of blood
vessels that feed tumors, thus cutting off their nutrient supply and
killing them.
The research builds on earlier work by DuBois and his colleagues
that suggested aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
(NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen help prevent colon cancer by inhibiting
certain
enzymes.
Over two dozen studies have shown that taking aspirin cuts the
risk
of colon cancer by about half, according to DuBois.
His study appears in this week’s issue of the journal Cell.
DuBois’ team grew colon cancer cells in a dish, and found they
started growing little blood vessels. This process is known as
angiogenesis.
Aspirin worked in two ways — by inhibiting an enzyme known as
COX-1
in the tumor cells that normally produces factors that prompt
angiogenesis,
and by inhibiting a second enzyme called COX-2 necessary for the
formation
of the blood vessels that feed the tumor.
Together, the pathways eliminate the flow of blood to tumors,
much
like chopping a plant off at its roots. <Picture>

Despite the fact they are known to lower colon cancer risk,
NSAIDS
are not usually recommended as a cancer preventive because of the high
risk
of stomach bleeding associated with chronic use.
But the new work suggests that drugs that inhibit COC-1 or COX-2
might be equally effective at staving off cancer, without the side
effects,
DuBois said.
He said his team is now testing COX-2 inhibitors in animals, with
good results. Not surprisingly, COX-2 blockers seem to particularly
effective in tumors that made high levels of COX-2 — a characteristic
shared by about 80 percent of colon tumors.
Nevertheless, drugs that work in mice do not always pan out in
humans. Human testing is underway, DuBois noted.

Slowly the medical world is maybe catching on! Love, Joicy

A Cancer Doctor Changes His Views About Alternative Treatments
    [05/26/98; Your Health Daily]

ATLANTA -- The slow entrance of alternative treatments into mainstream
U.S. medicine has mostly been conducted on tiptoe. Every once
in a while, though, a giant step brings the two camps closer.

Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, one of the
most mainstream and prestigious medical centers in the world,
recently took one of those leaps: It announced the formation
of a program in "integrative oncology."

The initiative will allow specialists to treat patients with
surgery, radiation and chemotherapy and with nutrition, meditation
and other alternative techniques. Besides helping individuals, it
may fill a broader need: Sloan-Kettering's close scrutiny could
provide the hard scientific data that nonstandard therapies need
to compete against traditional medicine.

Good Morning My Friends,

AS you know we are devotees and supporters of many alternative technques
and methods as, in some cases, stand alone therapy or adjunctive to
conventional treatment. But since there are so many alternative products
and treatments that are in our midst, I thought this may be of some
interest to you. Much of the following information was abstracted from
the Orange County Register, dated 5/27/98.

HOpe this benefits.

"David Spiegel", a professor of psychiatry and behavioral science at
Stanford points out...in some cases, peole will recover from an illness
whether they take a drug, a placebo or nothing.

Disastrous consequences, however, can come from an undeducated and
careless foray into alternative medicine. Here are some important
issues to keep in mind:

1- Be sure you have received a correct diagnosis from a conventional
doctor before seeking alternative care. (And as we pointed out here on
numerous messages, the importance and necessity of 2nd opinions is wise)

2-Tell your medical doctor about any alternative methods, including
dietary supplements, you are using or thinking of uning. Discuss the
risks and benefits and possible interatctions with other treatments you
are receiving. (If you have a supportive medical team they will assist
rather than dissuade and discourage)

3-No matter what you may be told by a friend, neighbor or alternative
care practitioner, never stop an existing treatment without first
consulting the doctor who prescribed it.

4-DONT BE FOOLED, by the word "natural". Natural is not synonymous with
safe. Arsenic, pennyroyal, botulinum toxin and urushiol (the
rash-inducing substance in poison ivy) are perfectly natural and highly
poisonous.

5-BEWARE of phony practitioners. Everyone who hangs out a shingle is not
necessarily schooled or licensed.

6-DON'T ASSUME that products labeled "dietary supplement" herbs,
vitamins and minerals and other potions sold in pharmacies, health food
stores, over the internet, cancer discussion forum, are safe and contain
what they say they do. Some are hormones; others are stimulants or
sedatives that can have serious adverse effects.
        These products are virtually unregulated.

Hope this article is of some interest to you in your quest for your
specific health and wellness plan.

God Bless
