[MOL] Winnipeg

Hi, Les, we were in Winnipeg last year. Recommend the brunch at the top of
the Winnipeg Art Gallery. Seriously good food and it was very pleasant
sitting up there in the midst of their statue garden. Recommend the statue
garden at the Assiboine Zoo also. I had never seen the new museum at
Winnipeg. Apparently, the Hudson Bay Company which had been based in
London, England all these years since the 1600s, decided to release all its
collection (All 46 tons) to Canada particulary Winnipeg as one of the first
settlements west of Toronto which had been settled by former HBC servants.
A replica of the Nonesuch (first to land in Hudson Bay) was made in
England, sailed to Canada and up the St Lawrence and dismantled and shipped
to Winnipeg. The museum was built around the rebuilt Nonesuch and as such
is a bit of a maze. We were so fascinated by the HBC collection that we
ignored the last calls and landed up with the lights being put out. We keep
landing back at the centre as we seemed to be wondering in circles. It was
pretty weird being in the museum with the dioramas, kind like the twilight
zone. Took us 20 minutes and we probably would have had to trigger the
alarm to get out. We also took a tour of the three rivers joining which was
quite interesting... this was the year of the big flood and a lot of river
walks were under water. We visited the Legislative buildings and you can
buy a very good lunch or dinner there if the legislature is sitting. There
is also a tourist office there where you can discounts on many of the
tourist attractions...for instance our boat tour was about $6.00. If you
get a chance, stop at the Cypress Hills Park which around the corner of
Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Happy Holidays and congrats on your haircut!
God Bless, Jeanne K
