Emmett,
Welcome to the group. My sister-in-law Annie has endometrial cancer,
stage 3a, and is now undergoing chemo. I am on the group for her sake,
but also - as it turns out - for my own sake. I took the news of her
cancer very hard. I am struggling with my own depression, too, from
years of emotional abuse while growing up. Anyway, you will find so much
inspiration and comfort here. For one, the book recommendations are
excellent. I have already sent Annie the Greg Anderson book and the
"Love, Medicine & Miracles," book by Dr. Bernie Siegel. Excellent books.
And I've listened well to people here who say that mind is very closely
related to body. They say that your best weapon against cancer is to
keep up your spirits, believe you will overcome, and embrace the chemo as
a friend since it is working to eradicate the cancer. Some people here
meditate in order to find peace amidst their travails. I am trying that,
too. Others say humor helps. Many say to ignore the statistics, that
only God knows how long any of us have on this earth. In the end,
quality of life matters more than quantity, and I am beginning to really
believe that quality of life is managed mostly from the brain, not from
events that happen to us. Amazing stuff.
Anyway, I'm glad you're here. And I hope you find this forum to be as
inspirational, loving, and informative as I have found it to be.
-Jean
One more thing. Your family members may be stumbling in the dark, too,
about how to best help you with the cancer. My sister-in-law keeps us
well-informed of her condition which helps enormously to give us some
peace of mind.
