Hi,
Just a quick note to tell you that we had a glorious 4 days at Ocean
City! The day we arrived, we went right out onto the beach, but the sun
was so hot (and I was so dehydrated from drinking diet sodas on the drive
to Ocean City) that I began to feel shaky and faint after awhile, had to
go inside. Shannon was a little afraid of the water, so she ran away
giggling whenever a wave approached her. Michael, on the other hand,
bravely stepped into the water (as I held tightly onto his hand). While
we were in Ocean City, we swam in the hotel pool 3x (Shannon loves
playing in the pool!) and we played putt-putt golf at least 3x. By the
next day, Shannon was braver about the entering the water on the beach.
She enjoyed kicking at the waves and getting piggy-back rides into the
water on Tom's shoulders. Michael sat down in the water and let the
waves roll over him. Shannon and I dug up sand crabs (?). Long after
she left to return to the waves, I was still digging up sand crabs. They
were fascinating! And we hunted for shells along the shore. Michael
enjoyed doing this much more than Shannon did. We found the body of a
skate, part of the armor of a horseshoe crab, etc.
Michael was quite a wild putt-putt golfer! He swung a little crazily and
even hit MY golfball into the water for me! One night, we took the kids
to the boardwalk and they rode rides in the arcade there. When we
weren't out of the hotel room enjoying the beach, putt-putt, etc.,
Shannon and I played double-solitaire (my grandmother and I used to play
it together, so I just HAD to teach Shannon how to play it!) and the kids
watched cable t.v. (we don't have it at home). On another day, we took
the kids to the zoo in Salisbury. I was entranced with the emu's there.
One couple seemed to be mating while three others almost got into a
fight! Tom had to practically drag me away from there. It was sort-of
like watching a soap opera. I couldn't wait to see the outcome!
We saw a duck & her nestful of eggs. That was sort-of special. And
Michael saw a bird that had "power ranger colors," as he puts it. We
saw lots of other animals, too.
We bought a few clothes for the kids at an Osh-Kosh B-Gosh outlet, and we
ate out at the Outback a few times. What a wonderful vacation we had!
And I probably would have lazed in bed if the kids and Tom hadn't dragged
me out to enjoy the beach, et al.
Well, that's all to tell. I'll keep this short - even though I have more
in my journal. Shannon wrote something, too, to share w/her teacher, and
she even drew a picture of the beach! A good time was had by all!
Love,
Jean
