[MOL] Medical question - Please respond

Hi

I am a 36 year old female, and I am obese. A couple of years ago, I
noticed that I had a place on the left side (under my breast but on my
stomach) that was sort of numb, but it itched a lot.. It was a spot
about 3" around. I went to my doctor and he told me that it was nothing
but dead nerves. I didn't quite believe him, but I figured he was a
doctor, so he knew what he was talking about. Well, today I still have
that place, but it is now about 4"-5" around, it still itches, it's
still sort of numb, and now it hurts. I can't describe the kind of pain
it is, something like a burning, stinging sensation, I just know it is
very uncomfortable.

I am so afraid of going to a doctor for fear he'll tell me I have
cancer. I know I should, because if it is something bad, then maybe it
can be taken care of now, right? I just can't make myself go. I'm
terrified, and I don't know what to do. I have also noticed that lately
I have heartburn almost everyday, and I usually take Tagamet HB200 for
it. But it doesn't always get rid of the heartburn.

I also know that you can't tell me what it is without being able to see
it. But I was just wondering if it's at all possible that it is a
hiatal hernia? I have heard a lot about hernias (in 1993 I had a small
hernia repaired on my navel), and thought that my be what is wrong.

Any information you could supply would be greatly appreciated.
