Dear Andrea, I am also 47, diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer in '95,
followed by mastectomy, chemo and Tamoxifen. I thought I was done after
chemo, so felt a lot of emotional resistance to taking anything else --
especially with all the side-effects you hear about. But my doc was
insistent so I went ahead. So far, side effects have included hot
flashes and thickening of the endometrial lining, requiring a D & C last
year. It may also be responsible for a recent funky pap smear, which i
have to have re-checked soon. However, if your doctor thinks you need
it, and they keep close tabs on you, it's probably worth it. (by the
way, if you go ahead, even if your oncologist forgets to tell you, make
sure you get in to see your ob/gyn right away -- that's who will likely
monitor you most concerning possible side effects, at least it's been
true in my case, and they need to do some baseline tests.)
Hope this helps, and i wish you all the best. Blessings, Joicy
